At Sunnydown School, equality, dignity, inclusion and respect are central to our school community. As a specialist school for boys aged 11–16 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), we recognise the importance of understanding individual needs, removing barriers and ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Our approach is rooted in positive relationships, trauma-informed practice, adaptive teaching, personalised support and ambitious opportunities for all.

Under Section 149 of the Equality Act 2010, Sunnydown School has due regard to the need to:

How We Promote and Monitor Equality

Equality and inclusion are embedded throughout school life, including our curriculum, adaptive teaching, exceptional pastoral care, careers education, enrichment and preparation for adulthood.

We monitor equality through safeguarding records, behaviour analysis, attendance and exclusion data, pupil voice, parental feedback and curriculum reviews. Senior leaders regularly consider this information to identify barriers to inclusion and opportunities for improvement.

Progress against our equality objectives is reviewed annually by senior leaders and governors and informs school improvement planning, safeguarding practice and curriculum development.
