Friends of Sunnydown

The Friends of Sunnydown (FoS) is the school’s registered charity and parent and community support group, dedicated to enriching the lives and experiences of the young people at Sunnydown School.

Everyone connected to the school is automatically part of Friends of Sunnydown, including parents, carers, families, staff, governors and members of the wider community. Together, we work to strengthen relationships across the school community while raising valuable funds that directly benefit our students. 

FoS supports projects, activities and opportunities that enhance learning, personal development and wellbeing for our young people. Fundraising has helped provide specialist equipment, enrichment activities, sensory and wellbeing spaces, social events and wider life experiences that go beyond what traditional funding can provide. 

As a specialist setting supporting young people with communication and interaction needs, Sunnydown places great importance on creating a sense of belonging and community. Friends of Sunnydown plays a vital role in this by organising inclusive events that allow families, students and staff to connect in supportive and understanding environments. Past events have included quiz nights, raffles, family socials, Christmas activities and community fundraising initiatives. 

All funds raised are used solely for the benefit of the students and school community, with trustees and volunteers giving their time freely to support the charity’s work. 

Friends of Sunnydown is a registered charity (Charity Number 1165806) and continues to welcome the support, ideas and involvement of families, local businesses and the wider community in helping our young people thrive.
