Key Stage 4 Curriculum

At Sunnydown School, Key Stage 4 is a crucial stage where students begin to shape their futures and prepare for life beyond school. Our curriculum is designed to be both ambitious and supportive, ensuring that every student is able to achieve meaningful qualifications while developing confidence, independence and resilience.

Rooted in our belief that every student belongs, the curriculum builds on the strong foundations developed in Key Stage 3. Students are supported to become increasingly independent learners, taking responsibility for their progress and preparing for their next steps.

KS4

All students follow a broad and balanced curriculum, including GCSE English, Mathematics and Science, alongside Physical Education and PSHE. In addition, students choose option subjects that reflect their strengths, interests and future aspirations. These include a range of academic, creative and vocational pathways.

A key feature of our Key Stage 4 provision is the opportunity for students to personalise their learning, ensuring they can experience success and develop skills that are relevant to their future pathways. This may include a combination of GCSEs, vocational qualifications and applied learning programmes.

The Friday Curriculum further enhances this offer by providing opportunities for project-based learning, college experiences and the development of independence and employability skills.

Strong pastoral support remains central at Key Stage 4, ensuring that students are supported both academically and emotionally as they prepare for their next stage.

By the end of Year 11, students leave Sunnydown with:

  • Qualifications that open doors
  • The confidence to take their next steps
  • The skills and independence needed for further education, training or employment
