Student Council

At Sunnydown School, our Student Council gives pupils a meaningful voice in school life. We believe that every young person should have the opportunity to share their views, influence decisions and help make Sunnydown an even better place to learn and grow.

The Council is made up of student representatives from across the school. They meet regularly to discuss ideas, raise suggestions from their peers and work with staff on projects that support the whole school community.

Through the Student Council, pupils develop confidence, communication skills, responsibility and leadership. They learn how to listen to others, represent different opinions and take positive action.

Our Student Council plays an active role in many areas of school life, including:

  • Sharing pupil views about learning, wellbeing and enrichment
  • Helping improve the school environment and student experience
  • Promoting kindness, respect and inclusion across the school
  • Helping to shape lunchtime and after school clubs and activities
  • Organising student events, charity initiatives and community projects
  • Supporting fundraising and awareness campaigns for local and national charities

Student voice is also an important part of recruitment at Sunnydown. Members of the Student Council are involved in staff recruitment processes, where appropriate, by meeting candidates, asking questions and providing feedback to senior leaders. This helps ensure that new staff understand the values, needs and aspirations of our students.

At Sunnydown, we are proud to support our young people to become confident, thoughtful and active members of their community. The Student Council plays an important part in ensuring that pupil voice remains at the heart of our school.
